In May, Albuquerque Business First revealed the companies that made our new Top 100 New Mexico Private Companies Awards.
Business First is highlighting a handful of companies that are new to the list this year.
Within two years, this woman-owned business introduced a fitness franchise to New Mexico and opened four different locations. Lorraine Higgins, owner of Orangetheory Fitness and a 2018 Women of Influence honoree, opened the state’s first Orangetheory Fitness studio in Albuquerque’s Westside in 2016 with only 300 members.
The franchise now has over 2,600 members spread across its three Albuquerque locations and one Santa Fe location.
"We started out three years ago with just one guy in an orange shirt. That was my husband," said Higgins. "Now we have almost 50 employees. Their mission is to deliver proven fitness results for a healthier New Mexico."
Orangetheory Fitness, a South Florida-based chain, has over 600 studios nationwide.
Higgins says that Orangetheory Fitness studios in New Mexico have raised over $14,000 for Augie’s Quest, a campaign dedicated to finding treatments and cures for ALS.
"We take our responsibility to pay our success forward very seriously," said Higgins. "We donate time and resources to many organizations and pay our team to participate in their fundraising events."
The local franchise supports Breast Cancer Awareness and is working this year to raise awareness for Orangetheory’s effort to reverse and cure Type II Diabetes, according to Higgins.
"Our initial plan was to build the New Mexico market with 4 studios, which we accomplished," said Higgins. "This year, we are focused on building our community."
Higgins says that the next step for Orangetheory Fitness is to develop its El Paso, Texas, market.
"Don’t worry, Rio Rancho and Los Lunas… we might be headed your way in the next few years," she said.
